Rise of the Third Reich Documentary Part One with Video Organizer The Third Reich is the name Hitler gave to his time ruling Germany. In his mind, the First Reich was the Holy Roman Empire (following the fall of the Roman Empire), the Second Reich was the reign of Otto von Bismarck (referenced in our last unit about Nationalism) and the reign of the Nazis as the "Third Reich." This documentary is disturbing, but of course the entire reign of the Nazis was disturbing. You are only watching Part One which is the first hour and a half. Of course, feel free to finish the documentary if you would like. The second part is about the fall of the Third Reich Tuesday 5/12 WW2 Choice Board Work Day - See directions by clicking on "Choice Board" This is a PDF file. Read directions at the top carefully! Following WWI, the economy boomed in the U.S. Many countries were burdened with paying war costs, but since no battles were fought in the U.S., the economy was strengthened compared to that of Western Europe. Germany especially suffered following the reparation payments and loss of industrial land following the Treaty of Versailles. Many countries, including Germany borrowed money from the U.S. in the form of loans. On October 29, 1929 the U.S. stock market crashed, triggering a Worldwide Depression.
